My Dental Health has 3 convenient Sydney locations; Barangaroo, Pyrmont and Martin Place, where our qualified professionals provide muscle relaxant treatments.

Why Dentists use non-surgical cosmetic injections & anti-wrinkle injections

Anti-wrinkle injections are continuing to gain popularity and have become one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in Australia. A recent study conducted by the Cosmetic Physicians College of Australasia revealed that “52 per cent of Australians were concerned about the physical signs of ageing, with a focus on wrinkles”.

Dentists are qualified to provide muscle relaxant injections for the face due to their superior knowledge of facial anatomy. Dentists can elect to receive training which will qualify them to administer muscle relaxants to the face.

My Dental Health specialists understand the importance of maintaining a youthful appearance, which is why we offer non-surgical cosmetic injections to manage frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines.

Medical Conditions treated with Non- Surgical Cosmetic Injections

Aside from the cosmetic benefits, our dentists use muscle relaxant injections to treat a number of medically related dental issues. Teeth grinding and other problems relating to the jaw can be managed with muscle-relaxant injections. Relaxing the muscles in the jaw can alleviate pain caused by overuse.

The following are 3 of the most commonly treated conditions:

Conditions treated with cosmetic injections include:

  • TMJ dysfunction
  • Bruxism
  • Gummy smile

How do anti wrinkle injections help TMJ, Bruxism and Gummy Smile?

TMJ dysfunction causes pain and impairment in the jaw joint, as well as the muscles that control jaw movement. As a result, patients may experience a variety of symptoms including muscle spasms, pain and the inability to open one’s mouth fully. Additionally, the condition causes tension headaches around the joint, migraines and ear aches.

Bruxism is the medical term for teeth grinding and jaw clenching. While many people experience the condition at night time, especially while sleeping, it can also occur during the day. It’s caused by excessive activation of the masseter muscle, which results in jaw pain. The masseter muscle controls biting and contracts at the back of the jaw when you bite. Other problems experienced include wearing down of teeth causing sensitivity, flattening or chipping of teeth, loss of tooth enamel, limited ability chewing and changes in facial appearance. Anti wrinkle injections acting as muscle relaxants soften and weaken the masseter muscle, which provides great relief of jaw pain, headaches and migraines. Chewing and facial expressions are not affected by the injections.

Gummy smile is a smile that displays excessive gum tissue. Injections are placed on the upper lip, making the muscles weaker. This prevents the patient from raising the upper lip as much, so that the gums are not visible. The injections do not affect the patient’s ability to chew or speak.

Maybe you, like many Australians, want to remove the unfortunate effects of stress, fatigue and worry? Our dentists will provide you with a course of anti wrinkle injections helping you to restore a youthful, carefree appearance.

If you’re suffering with Bruxism, TMJ dysfunction or are searching for a way to remove your Gummy smile, muscle relaxant treatments will greatly improve and potentially even eliminate the conditions.
